Rolling Thunder Rally in Washington, DC

I know, it's not really touring realted, but it's still bike related! Big rally to honor POW/MIA. I wasn't there for long, but I did snap off a ton of shots of various bikes I found interesting. These are just a few.

one of these things is not like the others... so mine is the oddball, so what?

Plenty more, probably put too many in this one post already. It was an interesting experience, and even though it was at least 75% HD there was still huge variety of people and machines.

Re: Rolling Thunder Rally in Washington, DC

Thanks for the great pics. I've wanted to make this event with my only motorcycling relative, my uncle, also a Viet Nam vet. The logistics of getting me from California to him in Texas and both of us to D.C. keeps hanging us up.

No, I really don't know for sure. The estimate I saw for last year's event was somewhere around 300,00 total, but I have no idea if that is accurate or not. This was my first time attending and all I can say is there were bikes parked, crammed and stuffed into every possible location that didn't severly hinder traffic flow. I saw a picture of the Pentagon parking lot (the staging area for the participants) and it was a sea of bikes, couldn't even see the pavement. The guy I rode with participated in it last year, he said he was about mid pack and didn't get to ride down Constitution Avenue until after 3 p.m., and the event kicked off around 11:30 or noon.

I'm glad I went, but I'm also glad I didn't hang around for too long.
