My local area
Everybody on this forum does such a great job at photos and ride stories it is a bit intimidating to try this for the first time.
I have been working night shift, 1800 to 0600, this work period and with close to 20 hours of daylight it has been hard to sleep. I got a couple of the honey do’s done early and decided to go out and see if I could take some photos of the local area. There are a couple of pic’s from the city dock and a couple from the road out of town, Keystone Canyon and the falls. I only hope when I grow up I can get just half as good at taking photos and telling riding stories like those of Papa Ken, Tim, or most of you here on this web site . I know I would be pleased to ride one quarter as well as Ken and any of the Old Farts .If the weather holds I will try and take some photos on my trip back from Fairbanks on my new to me Ultra Classic. |

You don't have to kiss up to anybody.
Those were beautiful shots. Tell us a little more about your area. I'm sure people would like to know more about it. I'm actually surprised to see the pavement in such good condition.

Re: My local area
Nice pics. Even a nicer place to ride, it just seems too congested here.

Re: My local area
Thanks for all the kind words guys.
I guess I should have stated a little about the Valdez Alaska area, so here goes. We are at the end of the Richardson Highway, and the end of the 800 miles of Trans Alaska Pipeline. There is only one road into town so it is the same road out of town. The nearest stoplight is around 290 miles away. The first chance to get on a different road other then the Richardson is 90 miles up the highway. The pavement for that road ends in Chitna, population around 50. After Chitna it turns to Dual Sport type road dirt, mud, and gravel. At 120 miles up the Richardson you make the decision to either turn left and go to Anchorage 160 miles, or go straight to either Fairbanks, around 220 miles, or Tok and the Alcan around 120 miles. The photos I took were all within 20 miles of town. The weather these past couple of weeks has been some of the best I have seen in 19 years here. I am begining to love global warming . We are also the snow capital of Alaska with an average year running around 35 feet. The winter of 1989 we had over 50 feet in town.If the weather holds and I get a chance tomorrow I will head up to the top of the pass before work and grab a couple of pictures up there. I was hoping to get a photo of the bears that have been roaming around here at work but they have not been by our building yet, too busy making meals out of the sea gull eggs here on the Marine Terminal. Any other questions about roads or road and travel conditions in Alaska, let me know. |
