Question about cropping/resizing photos

Is it better, from a photo quality perspective, to crop photos before resizing, or vice verse? I am using an Olympus point and shoot, so it needs all the help I can give it. Thanks.

Re: Question about cropping/resizing photos

It doesn't make much of a difference IMO, but I crop before resize. That way, I don't accidently over do it.

Re: Question about cropping/resizing photos

Logan, crop first, than resize. Cropping first allows you to hone in on your topic matter, then from there you can reduce it to a size that works on the forum, say 800-1000 pixel wide for landscape, or 700-800 tall for portrait.

Check out post # 23 in the last thread to get an interesting exampe of that.

Re: Question about cropping/resizing photos

For those who have not yet discovered Picassa, I reccomend this free tool from Google for cropping resizing and other basic edits. Very simple to use and keeps the original image as it was in case you ever want to do something different with it. Lots of other features also.

Also a great way to keep track of all the pictures you have on your pc

A great alternative to opening up Photoshop or other editor just to do something simple.
