That last one is great Ron- just flows off into the mountain. Makes you wonder what's on the other side!

Don't feel bad Ron, I called Verizon because I couldn't turn on my phone, while I'm on my wife's phone calling my 7 year old granddaughter turned it on for me.

The pictures in the posts above show Picture Gorge on US26, Sheep Rock in the background, Cathedral Rock is on the other side. Fantastic fossil museum nearby. Pictures below of John Day scenery, Cathedral Rock and Clarno Rocks.

Curvy Road Re: more oregon hole in the wall pics

Last Sept I visited a friend in Boise, ID. Upon leaving him I headed W to the Willamette Valley. I left I-84 @ Ontario, OR; I took US26 on my '05 1000RR and saw the same sights. The road from the Snake River heading W -> Unity, OR is just sage brush & rolling hills, but a goodly amount of time/space can be compressed there. But the middle section going pass/thru the Blue, Strawberry and Ochoco mtns were fantastic (Prineville, OR). These could be classified as faster roads - not a lot of 1st, 2nd gear corners; mostly medium to faster sweepers. For mile up on mile! This is semi-arrid country.

Nirvana for any motorcyclist, but I esp. enjoyed it on a litre sportbike. The traffic is rather light ; many of the corners have good visibility thru them; there are plenty of opportunities to pass the occassional RV or log truck; the tarmac was clean, and the road was in very good repair. What's not to like? Most esp compaired to the anguish of I-84 (from Hood River to the ID border).

As Eric S noted the museum (it's small) is rather informative (I didn't know there first rhinos were from that region). The ride from Bend, OR W is much tighter/twistier than the preceeding sections. It also has tonnes more traffic (by comparison). This is much more highly vegatative fir/cedar/fern alpine-mtn (Cascade Mtns) eco-system.

Cheers
