BikerDuck's Visit to Eugene, Oregon

So, my original plan for last weekend was for Karyn and I to ride our bikes up Hwy 242 to Scott Lake, where my Sherpa's were camping without me! We were going to have an early dinner, then overnight in Sisters, and return by way of the Cascade Lakes Hwy. But it was not to be...my brother-in-law had been drafted to take my two thirteen year-old nieces to the Vans Warped Tour in St. Helens over the weekend, and they needed Saturday and Sunday night lodging. No Hwy 242 over McKenzie pass, no Cascade Lakes Hwy for me. I'm not even done pouting when I get an e-mail from Martie (BikerDuck). She is coming to Eugene, and wants to know if we can ride on Saturday or Sunday. I say yes. She says which. I say yes. So.....

Martie comes to Eugene. We meet at a Shari's near her motel. She gets checked in, and we go for a local ride, since she has about 3 hours before her meeting.

BikerDuck and the Duck in Flames at the motel. Note the Pashnit decal on the home-made saddle bags!

We travel about 80-90 miles over some of our better westside local twistie roads, and I deliver Martie back to the motel with enough time to freshen up before her event.

On Sunday, we meet at 1:00 p.m. (after her Sunday commitment) and Karyn, Martie and I take Hwy 58 to Salt Creek Falls. We ran into the BMWOR group returning from their weekend ride (over Cascade Lakes Hwy, amazingly enough) and three couples, two on Harleys and one on an old Yamaha (sorry, can't tell you what kind, only that it looked great). Our return was via some of the east side's windy roads, including a couple of covered bridges that I've posted on before. We got fuel at the Coburg Shell (scene of the meeting of me and FishWitch on our OTHER gal's ride) and sent Martie on her way. Awesome day of riding!! Thanks Martie, for rescuing my weekend!!

What a day it was. About 140 miles, either on back roads or blue highways. Martie delivered me my black boa, but I didn't have it with me.

p.s. I think my 46 year-old brother-in-law had a better time at the concert than my nieces did. He never even once had to visit the Parent's Tent, a.k.a. reverse day care.

Re: BikerDuck's Visit to Eugene

Everything about those two days of riding was just superior. Great friends, wonderful roads, good weather. How could I be so lucky! Ally even had me on some descending 15mph twisties, and I did pretty well. That's what friends are for. By the way, Ally told a lie. She's not the bald one. She has the beginnings of a great gray "high and tight". Her commander will be impressed!

"Martie, great bags! Did you make them??" Donna, yes, I did. I went to my favorite outdoor fabric store and the owner there had a "trace off" pattern for bicycle saddle bags that I was able to convert to a pattern for moto bags. Anybody who would like the pattern should PM me. They really proved their worth on the trip down to Eugene, but there are some kinks that I need to work out, and will take care of by the next time I go somewhere. They are stiffened by corrugated campaign signs. Fortunately, I had a bunch stapled to my garage walls to hide nail holes.

Great seeing all you gals out riding together! Super pics as usual. I'm not sure if it's good to hear that Martie is tearing apart the "DuckBlind" to use assorted parts & pieces on her bike though!! LOL Those bags are neat!! I see you got the rack painted too.

Glad to see you out and riding Ally!!!

Ally, some really nice locations on your ride. I love all the waterfalls located in Oregon. Several years back, my wife and I spent almost amonth along the Columbia and from Astoria down the ocean staying about 4 days in various camp grounds drinking in the beauty of your state. Traveled the waterfalls circuit from Multnomah Falls and climbing up to view so many more with some great views of the many barges on the Columbia plus the Columbia Gorge. Your state has the best state campgrounds bar none.....Ken

Ally great post and photos. Enjoyed them both. Martie, those hand made saddle bags look great. Maybe something you can offer for sale. Someone sends you the dimensions for their bike, viola, custom bags.
