Mark
Thanks for sharing. I started my Sunday morning checking out Pasnit for a post I had seen here before and found yours instead. WOW what a story and an inspiration. Your journal made me feel like I was there. You have inspired me to get off my behind and take my trip-of-a-life-time! I sure enjoyed tagging along on yours this morning. Thanks again....and WOW again too. Dick |

Re: 34 Days Through the Western United States and Canada
Wow, I've spent literally hours reading through this. It is absolutely fascinating. What a great experience and thanks so much for the thoughtful writing and great pictures. You drove by me here in Clovis, CA just a few miles from my house and drove on some of my favorite roads (ie. Auberry Road, Tollhouse, etc.).
I am seriously considering stealing some of your western route and riding it in the future. I also noted by the picture of your garmin GPS that you went 112 MPH at some point ![]() |

Re: 34 Days Through the Western United States and Canada
Great write up. Given that I live in this area, there are a few roads on your route I would strongly recommend.
Down in the Mt. St. Helens area when you are coming up FS25, take FS99 up to Windy Ridge. This provides the most scenic of all of the vantage points in my opinion. On Mt. Rainier, while Paradise is nice, on the east side is Sunrise which give spectacular views of the mountain. See examples at www.gwrra-waa.org and click on the pictures link and locate the Sunrise ride. If you had gone north out of Leavenworth and picked up WA20 in Winthrop, you would have ridden the best m/c road in Washington State (as rated by Destination Highways). It's absolutely spectacular. Again, a great write up with spectacular pictures. |

Re: 34 Days Through the Western United States and Canada
I'm only about 2/3 of the way thru this astounding trip report, but I feel compelled to let you know that your trip and this report completely blow me away! Completely. The ambitiousness of the undertaking, the detail of the travelogue, the quality and beauty of your photographs; it's just @#$%ing amazing. Stone cold @#$%ing amazing!!! I sincerely thank you for taking us all along for the armchair ride; while not much of a wanderluster myself, I am now beginning to dream of a grand tour that I may one day share with my fellow Pashnit peeps. You are an inspiration, for sure. Bravo Helmetdance! Bravo Pashnit! Gary |

Re: 34 Days Through the Western United States and Canada
Interesting! As I am reading through this story I recognised one of Mark's photos the same location as one I took and submitted for the 2007 calendar.
My photo ![]() Mark's photo ![]() The difference being the time of the season. It interest me that the same scenery strikes a cord of interest to two different riders and probably many more people who cross Nevada on Highway 50 enough to stop and take a photo. There are many beautiful views to see while crossing Nevada on the loniest highway in the nation, yet this one spot captivated both Mark and myself. |

Ok, so it took me a while to get to your adventure, Mark, but I spent the better part of a whole day reading it and looking at the awesome photography. Truly incredible! Kudos. You've inspired me to someday take an incredible trip like yours, via two wheels!
Thanks again, Eric ![]() |
