Cross country trip

Traveled from LA to the DC area to the Atlantic Ocean. I have a long trip report over at sport-touring.net but I thought I'd throw a few pix up here.

Highway 78 into NM, near Clifton, AZ

Route 15 to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, north of Silver City, NM

Roads of plowed sand (no asphalt) in the White Sands National Monument, Alamogordo, NM

Talimena Scenic Drive, Talihina, OK

Summer thunderstorm in Arkansas

Route 7, north of Hot Springs, AR

More to come...

Great photos. The road of sand look cool. How was it to ride?

It brought new meaning to the words "hard pack." So long as you stayed away from the edges, it rode like regular asphalt (although we were NOT tempted to try any lean angle). Off the main stripe, the sand on top was like slushy snow.

Thanks. I rode about 7000 miles total cross country.
9 days from Seal Beach, CA to Rehobeth Beach, DE. 4000 miles with only 600 miles of interstate for the trip out. Visited 17 national parks and connected the dots among some of the best roads in the country (most of which I have photos for above). Rode out with a good friend. He had fewer days away available. His wife stayed with their 2 kids while my wife flew out with my son to spend the 1.5 weeks with my in-laws. So he flew home and shipped the bike back.

The West to East trip report is over on S-T.N

After a few days with my family and a week in the Virgin Islands with my wife celebrating our 10th anniversary, I hopped on the bike and rode home. I arrived 6 days and 3000 miles later. The return trip was compressed, and I rode only 1000 miles off the interstate. The faster route did enable me to see more national parks on the return trip + the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame museum and my grandmother for a night.

Absolutely fantastic stuff! If I ever get that kind of time to take off from work, this is what I want to do.
