Cold? When? It ain't even October yet! Come on, hon, you can tough it out. Thats what they make morning coffee for! Besides, all you should need is a heavier sleeping bag. You know what to expect now and can equip yourself for it.

And if you think it gets cold here, check out the conditions for Grand Forks, North Dakota. I lived there for a little over 5 years and the day I left the temp without the windchill was -50. With windchill it was -75! Now thats cold!

I think I might go without the bike this time. It's freezing cold to ride. I can meet with you somewhere and we can drive up together. I have to go back sun morning since i have missed lots of wushu class lately.

Fenny, maybe it is time to start getting cold weather gear. Start with heated grips...never will own another bike without these. Layering under your riding gear is the ticket (or better yet, electric stuff).

I will be getting Judy the Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket and pants for the Gathering. A good set of thermals, fleece lined jeans, turtle fur neck warmer, balaclava, and water proof gloves (with poly or wool gloves under) will be added. Her wolly pully sweater will cover the top. If that does not cut it, there will be electric in her future (I am a warm body and electric would be mostly uncomfortable).

Oh and a bag full of dried fruit/jerky/nutrition bars will carry you a long way. Sorry to have missed your discomfort, Judy and I had food on the bike that we would have been more than happy to share. Next time don't be so shy.

Fenny, Law Dawg is 100% correct. With the right gear you can ride very comfortable in the (California) cold weather. Don't let a little cold ruin your ride.

Fenny,

I can recommend a good pair of gloves for you. They are made by Olympia and are lined with something they call Wind-Tex. The company lists that as an all season glove but I can tell you from personal experience you do not want to wear them unless the outside temp is 40 degrees or colder. I had another pair of thicker, heavier gloves that were supposed to be for winter weather riding and these keep my hands warmer. You can check out the web site at http://www.olympiagloves.com/gloves.html

Click on all season then 4350 All Season I

Or just take a look at these:

I rode to work in Delaware in February with the outside temp at 20 and my hands never got even chilled. I think I paid somewhere around $40 for the pair. IF you look, they even have a face shield wiper on the left thumb.

Also, check Wal-Mart for their version of Carhartts Bib-alls. I think Wally world calls them Blizzard-Pruf. I got a pair of them and I wore them during cold weather rides. Cost about 75% of what you'd pay for Carhartts. Well worth it IMHO.

HTH,

Ray
