Introduction

A Note from the Editor:

Readers of the Pashnit forum are very fortunate to have what I like to call our pool of “foreign correspondents”. We’ve read many tales from Orson’s travels in Europe and beyond, and bask in the gorgeous photography of Steve1962, who brings us a regular flow of pictures of the towns and countryside in the U.K. But for a view into riding in Germany, we turn to Daniel from Cologne (or Eifelrider von Köln). Daniel's photos of the roads and the sights in and around the Eifel mountains have captivated us with each of his excellent photo threads here.

A dedicated and hard-working student, Daniel is close to completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. The work comes first. The rides he can squeeze in to his schedule provide a respite from studies and offer a taste for the adventures Daniel will undoubtedly undertake after receiving his diploma. In the meantime, Daniel satisfies a wanderlust by taking in the “Touristenfahrten” (or touring motorists) who come from far and wide for a run on Germany’s famed Nürburgring race track.

Over the summer Daniel has immersed himself in the Fahrvergnügen that satisfies the visitors to Nürburg and its alluring roadway. The results shared here, more than 150 photos, bring us a view into a phenomenon unknown in the U.S. Enjoy your trip to the Ring, through the eyes of our German correspondent. And thanks, Daniel, for the spectacular photos you’ve graciously shared with your fellow moto enthusiasts!

Hey Eifelrider -- Great job documenting! Do you race also? How do they split the races up?

Cheers!

Thanks for the nice comments! I personally don´t ride on the Ring during the public sessions, I just go there to watch.
There are no professional Motorcycle races anymore, because the track is too dangerous (no run off areas). But there are arond 20 Touring Car Endurance races every year plus the legendary 24 hour race. Up to 220 cars can compete in one race, because the track is so long (13 miles).

Pics can be found HERE

Daniel, finally reminded myself to look at this article and SO glad I did. Loved the old El Camino on the track and tiny little SmartCar, but you're right, ALL parking lots should have that kind of collection. Those are some sweet machines. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to share The Ring with us. Appreciate it!

I've always been fascinated with tales of yesteryear at the "ring".

While perusing Wikipedia, I came across the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charade_Circuit Charade Circuit in Clermont-Ferrand, France. It was the site of French motorcycle GPs back in the 1960's. At 8 kilometers in length, it would be similarly difficult to the 'ring as far as trying to learn the layout.

Built around the sides of an extinct volcano, it sounds very interesting. I'd love to visit it and see if you can still ride around it.

Wow, thank you for sharing the Ring with us. That is one place that I have to ride before I die.

Always a pleasure to view the post on the Pashnit site. Especially when you return home from little deployments to the sand box.
