Still snow at Mt Lassen
I got the pics to prove it! Yes, I rode to Mt Lassen for the first time today. And yes there is still a bunch of snow to be seen there. When I stopped at Bumpass Hell for a pit stop (literally, LOL!) I walked around a bit to snap a few pics. When I got back on the bike, I realized I was out of breath! No air up there and I ain't used to it. C'mon you guys, gimme a break, I spent most of my adult life living 36 feet above sea level!
Anyway, heres the pics: 1st stop, Bumpass Hell. The marker there says the rock there was kinda out of place after the glacier went thru. A short ride up the road and I found Lake Helen. The water was so clear and so blue it was amazing. The white stuff on the far side of the road is some of the snow still on the ground. And of course, I had to get the obligatory shot of my bike in here too. A mile or so later and I found the summit elevation on the road. I got this pic for a friend of mine back in Delaware. Back on the road and I stopped at the top of some of the twisties and managed to get a shot of this cage driving up the to where I was. I rode all the way through the park and back. On my way down the east slope, I saw the turn off for the Lassen peak trail head. I decided it might be time for another pit stop so I rode in. I found a wee bit of snow behind the Pit stalls. All together it was a 220 mile round trip ride, including a lunch stop, at Knotbumpers, in Chester. I think I'm gonna make another trip up there in a week or so. My girlfriends oldest daughters birthday is coming up and when I told her about my ride today, she wants a ride there on the bike for her present. Ride Safe ya'll! Ray

Re: Still snow at Lassen
One more pic. The one I did of Lake Helen didn't do the color of the water justice so here tis:

What?
A pic from the parking lot at Bumpass, but none of the hot springs? Well, if you were just that eager to get back on the bike and ride, ok. I didn't walk down to the hot springs till I took the family there in the cage. Definitely worth the trip, even for us out of shape dwellers-at-sea-level. Badger/John |

I'm retired, a little overweight, non-athletic and used to living at sea level. At least I quit smoking nearly 5 years ago. Walking from one side of the parking lot to the other got me slightly winded. I took one look at the trail and said no thanks, maybe another time. Besides, if I had taken the trail I'd have missed seeing these two woodland creatures:I shut the bike down a little ways back from them and coasted up close as close as I dared. When the one on the right picked up his head and started looking at me, I stopped and got out the camera. This shot has me convinced I need a camera with a better zoom. Mine only has a 2X and I'm looking at a Canon with 6X and total of 24X zoom. But I'd like to also get a new leather jacket and some kind of riding protection for my legs, either chaps or otherwise, a new helmet and a windjammer for my current lid. So I REALLY need to try to justify the need for a new camera to myself. ![]() Ray

Re: Still snow at Lassen
Wow...there is quie a bit of snow. Considering the warm temps you guys have had.
The Global Warming Crowd will think the photos have been altered. It has been raining up here for the last 2 weeks. Finally got a break last night and there is Termination Dust already.....not even Labor Day yet. I am going to have to get the electric vest out. Great photos...I love the Lassen area. |

OK Bob, maybe I'm missing something here, but what site did you post the vid to? BTW, how do you like your Bandit? I got mine used with less than 6000 miles on it and I love it! Its got almost 20K on it now and I've owned it about 2 years. Any mods to yours? Is yours the naked bike or is it faired? Ray

Re: Still snow at Mt Lassen
Ray,
The vid is on Roadstories of Roadtrips on the Pashnit site. Click on Big Trees Ebbetts Pass and a Volcano. I bought mine a year and a half ago with 5400 mi on it . Now it has 26,000mi on it. The bike is the Non flaired. ( not the S model). I bought several tank bags and a Saddle bag for travel. They work well. I only buy the sport bike tyres good for 6000mi but what a grip they have. Big difference from riding in Western NY than NorCal. I have kept the bike all stock. I'm thinking about a new seat...my butt hurts after a long ride....lol. Bob
