Some Interesting and (mostly) Unidentified Pix
Greeting everyone.
While working on a freelance writing assignment about the Taft Motorcycle Club in Taft, Ca., I was e-mailed some intriguing old photos many of which seeming pre-date the 1950's. Unfortunately the person who sent the to me doesn't really know anything about them. I'm posting them here just because they are interesting and pretty cool, BUT...if someone out there happens to recognize something it would be great if you let me know. Thanks. Cameron ![]() Somewhere in the vicinity of Taft, Ca...year and rider unknown ![]() Same story as above ![]() Same dirt, different day...looks to have been shot in West Kern County...rider and year unknown ![]() I know a little about this one...a pic of the Taft M/C outside the Black Cat in Ford City. ca. 1955 ![]() Maybe shot in Seqouia National Forest...? ![]() 50 years worth of ride pins...Thanks Bob! Cameron...out... |

Re: Some Interesting and (mostly) Unidentified Pix
Cameron,
My best estimate is that the earliest the top two shots could have been, is 1953 or even '54. The car in the background will tell you that. It's a '50 or '51 Chevy Deluxe (1949's did not have the taillight on the very trailing edge end of the fender like the 50-51's did). Also if I am correct about this, the tu-tone paint job and the chrome leading edge fender decoration also tells me it was a 1951. They were rarely, if ever found on the '50 model. This Chev's body style was in production for model years 1948-49 through 52. I still think it's one of the best Chevrolet ever did and 1,000's of custom jobs on this car confirm others' fondness for it too...... Behind the Chev though, is a tougher one to guess on, but here is my shot: a 1953 Ford F-100. That body was new that year and in production thru 1956. If it's not an F-100, the only other roofline and fenderline compraable would be the 1955-57 Dodge pickup. So it could have been that late! Others knowledgeable about these cars feel free to correct me. |

Thanks!
I was way off on my estimation of the dates. Appreciate the info very much. |

Re: Some Interesting and (mostly) Unidentified Pix
The riding cap on the guy in the first pic (and in the middle in the second pic) looks like a Buco cap with the winged rider patch on the front. Can't quite tell from the pic, however. That was a common style back then (check out the guy on the left in the second pic).
