Motorcycle Heads-up Display

Just heard that they've come out with a heads-up display for motorcycles that will provide speed, gear position, RPM and possibly more data. I'm not sure if the Info. will be displayed on the face shield, or on some type of flip-down mini screen, but a friend of mine saw this at a recent motor-sports dealer show and was told that they're in the moto-world near future.

Do the cross hairs lock onto the exhaust of the slow moving vehicle directly in front of you? A couple of sidewinders would be a nice option.

We can only hope!

As great as that would be, I think it's a ways off. BUT! BMW has come out with a "BlueTooth" helmet, which lets you send and receive cellphone calls and uses a bone conductivity microphone. You basically talk through your ear. So, combine that, with the heads-up display and XM Radio, we are going to be flying like never before!

Re: Motorcycle Heads-up Display

While not the complete instrumentation GSrifter mentioned, I have seen a heads up indicator that mounts to the helmet and hooks to a Valentine radar detector. It gives a visual ony warning with a little red LED. I think it is intended to allow stealth mounting of the detector.

Re: Motorcycle Heads-up Display

That's known as a HARD indicator. Stands for Helmet Assisted Radar Display. And no, it's not just for stealth mounts of the radar detector... it's to overcome the fact that one can't hear the detector chirping, so it provides a visual cue that the detector's picked something up.
