Re: Sierras in September: A Pashnit Ride of Elevated Proportions
Highway 108 pushing deeper into the Sierra Nevada. Few curves here and there.
![]() ![]() Still wee bit of snow, in September! Soon the snow will fly closing the pass till Spring. ![]() Cathy on the CBR599

Re: Sierras in September: A Pashnit Ride of Elevated Proportions
Hwy 4 looks something this, these are really hard to figure out, I have to stare at them for a bit to get orientated, then it's like oh yes, I remember that curve!
This is the top of the pass, looking westward. That transverse line going left to right, that's the Pacific Crest Trail across the mountain tops. You can see the 9624 ft summit at bottom middle center where it intersects the Pacific Crest Trail. Then after that, the road begins its steep descent into a 26% grade. ![]() This is the next westerly quadrant if you will. At very bottom, that set of switchbacks is where these pics were taken. At very top left is Sonora, our destination.![]() Tim bringin' up the rear ![]() ![]() The Speed Triple

Re: Sierras in September: A Pashnit Ride of Elevated Proportions
Then a fun ride up Sutter Creek Rd to Volcano
![]() Stopping in Volcano to walk through this historic Gold Rush Town ![]() To check out the Civil War era canon they have there ![]() Tim reading about the history of Volcano- sign reads: "Started 1848 by soldiers of Colonel Stevenson's Regiment. Names by miners because of apparent volcanic appearance here. The first California Rental Library 1850 was established and one of the first "Little Theaters" founded by the "Volcano Thespian Society, 1854. Interesting Civil War history."

Re: Sierras in September: A Pashnit Ride of Elevated Proportions
Monitor used in gold mining. These were eventually outlawed but there are quite a few of them remaining throughout the foothills and gold rush regions.

Re: Sierras in September: A Pashnit Ride of Elevated Proportions
Here's an alternate group shot, although I'm not sure how I'd explain this one to my wife.
