Equinox Ride

We decided that what better way to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox than to go for a ride. We chose the Aufderheide Memorial Dr. (aka USFS Rd 19 and West Cascades Scenic Byway) between the Willamette Hwy (OR Rt. 58) and the McKenzie Hwy (OR Rt. 126 East).

Once we took off, we almost immediately had to stop to buy snacks, then on to Westfir, where I of course had to stop and take a photo of the covered bridge over the Willamette River.

Of course, while I take photos, Karyn has to stretch!

The next stop was at the "summit", just past where the Willamette drainage goes south and just before the McKenzie drainage goes north. Snickers, snacks of champions, and a hitchhiker!

A scenery shot, one of the straight stretch of road at the summit. The trees and mountain view are representitave of the view in the twistie section, which I was busy riding and not photo-ing! The other is Cougar Reservior.

And the mandatory bike shot.

This was a 5 hour, 170 mile ride on a beautiful day. We saw about 60 other motorcyclists, stopping to talk to a few at the summit. A great day for riding!

Ally -- I sure hope it's just me and my connection, but all I'm seeing is your last two pictures. Sounds like ya'all had a great ride though!

Cheers!

Re: Equinox Ride

What they said Ally, only the last two pictures of the reservoir and bike shot are visable to me. They were good pictures as was your text, but would be nice to see the rest of the attachments.

It is a nice way to way to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox Ally and the ride sounds like a blast.......Ken

What I forgot to mention in the original post was that just before the summit, we saw a black bear in the middle of the road. We just got back from a week in Alaska, and come back to Oregon to see a bear!

Re: Equinox Ride

I love that bridge...it was the first covered bridge I ever rode a motorcycle across. I stumbled upon it riding south from Blue River once back when there was still 20 miles of gravel rode on that route, and it just thrilled me...no pics survive from that time, so thanks for the memories it just brought me
