Blast from the past

I was rummaging around in the garage today and ran across this picture. It was 1985 or 86 and I was on my way home to Port Lavaca, TX from the WERA races at Texas World Speedway. It was fall and the weather was cool and msty so I had my rain gear on. I really loved that bike, the most comfortable bike I have ever owned.

Re: Blast from the past

what kind of Fairing is that? Tagra?
Those were great bikes. I think if they made something like that today it would sell well.

Re: Blast from the past

Reminds me of Tom Cruise and Top Gun. And isn't it funny to look back at our footwear from 20 years ago! Back in those days I couldn't afford boots so I wore my military issue combat boots everywhere. Only boots I had at the time.

The fairing is a Greer Mach 1. They weren't in business very long and I've only seen 1 other bike in person with one. Greer were the same folks that designed the GPz fairings for Kawasaki. With the lowers taken off it looked a lot like a GPz. The fairing turned the Nighthawk into a great sport tourer with all day comfort. And I agree, I think that an up to date version with water cooling and a decent set of hard bags would sell like hot cakes.

Tim, I can't remember if I rode in boots or tennis shoes most of the time. I think for the most part it was work boots and that was one of the few times I had sneakers on. I did wear a quality leather jacket all the time.

Re: Blast from the past

Wow that was my first thought GPZ. I had a 750 one and my next door neighbor had the Nhawk s. We rode the snot out of those things. Alot of riding done in Tennis shoes as well.
One small get off was all I needed to never wear tennis shoes again. lol..
