Curvy Road New BMW Guy

If you haven't ridden around San Luis Obispo, you've missed some of the greatest motorcycle roads in California. Happy to share the fun. Any questions? Happy to answer.

Re: Introductions - Introduce yourself here...

Blue Dragon here. I uploaded some pictures of my babies ... bikes. The Delivered ones ride out of the Temecula/Murrieta area and if anyone has any rides that would be good from this neck of the woods, I would appreciate them sharing them. I am trying to plan out rides for a year. If you have a map of the route and any suggestions for scenic stops and food stops it would be a great help to me. We have only been here since August of 2009 and are still learning the area and have only been group riding since that time.

I am a bit overwhelmed by the response to my original post. I wish I could respond personally to everyone - but there are over 6000 of you and only one of me!!! I am retired, though, so I'll make an attempt over time. Keep the rubber down and the chrome up! God bless you all.

Do See Canyon Road, or Montana de Oro State Park roads make that list of great roads?

Re: Introductions - Introduce yourself here...

Newbie here. Texas is my Home. Just getting into dual sports. Looking forward to short hop touring on a durable bike meant for bad roads. DRZ400 is my choice. Looking to buy low mileage used bike to upgrade or whatever after I see what others have done.

Re: Introductions - Introduce yourself here...

Hello,

My name is Terry and I live on the San Francisco Peninsula close to Skyline.

I purchased my first bike (2004 BMW R 1150 RT) on the recommendation of a friend. I'm not quite ready of an iron butt ride but I look forward to putting lots of miles on my bike.

A Pasnit member and friend (BongoUSA) suggested that I join your group.

So here I am.

Hello, Terry !

Great to here from you here. You will find tons of info buried in this forum, the only thing you have to do is ask

Let's try to get on a ride together on Monday after I'm off of work, at 1300 hours. A little loop - Skyline, Turnitas Creek, Lobitos Creek, Old Stage Rd, a grab to bite at Duarte's, than back via Old Pescadero Rd. La Honda Rd. and Skyline. We'll doing it slow.

And the 1150RT, isn't that a great bike ??

Se ya on the road, or at work
Ralph

Hello, my name is Bill, and I think I'm becoming a motorcycle addict!

I'm in Bakersfield and just picked up a WeeStrom a couple months ago. Now I'm trying to find time to venture out.

Intro Chris "motomon" Brown (Long)

Me and Motos or My Love Affair with Motos

My card says that I sometimes give out, says that I am an, "Adventure Traveler." With a regular, but modest, income from disability, I can travel full time ... frugally. Lately, I’ve ridden the following:
2009 – DR650 Los Angeles to Ushuaia, Argentina; relearned 30 year old Spanish; returned June 2010
2010 – After South America return, rode LA to Michigan to North Carolina to LA
2011 – Rented DR 650 for a month in the North and South Islands of New Zealand
2011 – Los Angeles to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Michigan to NC to LA
2011 – Leaving late Oct/early November from LA to South America on '04 DL650
(Have challenge of preparing, new to me, bike for extended travel)
2012 – SA to Ushuaia, then to:
a. Buenos Aires or ? to ship to South Africa, then Africa, Europe, Asia, & Australia
b. Return to LA, then do the TAT and CDT before Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia.

I've been a student (many part time jobs including: janitor, tree trimmer, pool player), teacher, coach, principal, husband, studio driver, manager, father of adopted Costa Ricans, trainer, consultant, & road racer/track rider, and performance riding instructor on tracks. My affair with motos began in 1966 with my first disastrous ride/crash on an old Indian, followed by my first bike, a Honda 305 Scrambler. I also had my first crash that year when a cager coming from the opposite way, turned left in front of me, leaving me with 8 back fractures and an unknown number of fractures in a broken ankle.

I then bought a Honda CB750, which I rode from Michigan to California to Canada, then back to Michigan. I put that 750 motor into a “hardtail chopper,” ALA Easy Rider. The 18-inch over front end (high neck, so not radical rake) with coffin tank beauty took a year to customize & build. It was a pain in the ass to own because there were no others like it and it drew crowds everywhere, leaving me very paranoid about theft. It was ridden cross country, & then ultimately stolen from my locked garage … while I was home sleeping.

Among bikes I've had: Honda ST1100; BMWs (K: 75, 12RS, 12LT); Aprilia RSV1000 (raced); Suzuki SV650(raced), DR650, & now DL650 V Strom; Yamaha R6 & FZ1. This may sound like a lot of bikes, but hey, I'm an old fart of 65.

I’ve had three helicopter rides, 29 fractures + 30-40 more which resulted in amputated foot from wreck in last sanctioned race. I have to shift with my heel, but I still love to ride. I only wish I had started younger: to ride in the dirt (early or sometime losing my foot!) and to do motocross and road racing.

I need to pare down my current stable of a track-only R6 and FZ1 "Bee" to make room to semi-retire my DR650 to await doing the TAT and CDT in the future. My challenge now is to quickly outfit my '04 WeeStrom with bags, top case, tank bag, heated grips, fuse block, chain & sprockets, etc. Any suggestions, especially from Wee owners are gratefully received.
