Re: Introductions and Caribou Road, Butt Valley Reservoir
Hello! Read this forum on and off for years; decided to join to answer an old question.
Caribou Road goes north from California Highway 70 up to Butt Valley Reservoir and then to 89 along the SW shore of Lake Almanor. I drove it - yes, drove, in a minivan - and I thought I'd update folks on the road condition. From 70, the southern end, it is paved for about 7 miles, to what I think is Belden Forebay. It's smooth and twisty, but not much over a lane wide, so don't plan on real high speeds. Folks come around corners rather casually. Next, for about 9 miles, it is mostly a well-graded and maintained gravel road. It is moderately steep, but rideable on any bike. A few areas are a tad rougher, but there are no serious ruts, loose sand, deep gravel, or anything that would keep you from riding in on a sport bike, or a gold wing for that matter. There are some BEAUTIFUL vistas, so it's worth the ride. At this point, you reach the dam that create Butt Valley Reservoir. A half-mile after that, the road levels out. Much of it is paved, but some is well-graded and maintained gravel. As you get to the middle of the reservoir, it is all paved, all the way to 89. If you absolutely won't ridge on anything but hard pavement, this road is not for you. OTOH, if ordinary gravel roads - not tracks, not jeep trails, but maintained roads - are okay with you, I recommend it. The views are wonderful. Heck if I can do it in a minivan, you can do it on your bike. ;-) I ride my R1100RT all kinds of places you're not supposed to ride them. That's where the fun is! - RootGoose |

Hello All.
New to the forum. Just purchased an 08 Busa, first one for me. I've ridden for many years in the dirt and on the street. Road raced and drag raced in the years past. My other bike is a FZ1, used mainly for two up riding. I thought I had the sport bike thing out of my system. But...not. So the Hayabusa? Well nothing exceeds like excess... Regards Fanman |

Re: Introductions - Introduce yourself here...
Well Im not new around here but my wife has decided to join into mix of the PASHNIT FORUM... which she has never been involved with any forum so this will be a totally new experience for her. We have both been on a Pashnit Tour before so some of you guys have met her and both Tim's know her well already. One ride with the Tim's and they make you feel like family!
Her log in is tnkrbella and her name is Tinker (granmas nickname from birth) and so it just stuck all these years later. Anyway she is the love of my life and has become a very good rider as my wing-woman for many years now. She has branched off on her own and joined a womens riding group (WOW) but the group riding with them is a bit parade like.... and she has a few locals that she rides with, but shes been bittin hard by this 'riding-bug' and still doesnt seem to get enough.... 'spirited riding in' I told her to get together with some of you NorCal Pashnit gals and go do some riding because you all seem to know what you are doing and ride the ride she likes to ride.... a bit 'spirited'.... So she should be coming along here anytime and signing on to find you guys, but here she is on her bike. And dont let that HD covering fool ya, the bike doesnt know its suppose to be a bagger, she rides it like its a VStrom!

Re: Introductions - Introduce yourself here...
Hey, all! I'm an innkeeper on Highway 49 north of Nevada City, California. I know how popular it is to ride in our area so I thought it would be good to add current information. This summer CALTRANS is repaving from Downieville to Yuba Pass. Today, the paving is semi (only the first 1 1/2" of asphalt of 3" has been laid) complete from Downieville to just below Sierra City. Once roadwork passes Bassett's Station a clean ride may be had by crossing Gold Lakes Road to Highway 89. When complete the road will be like glass, truly beautiful.
So, I'm an innkeeper riding my 3ed Harley, I bike across the Sierras to go shopping, a long days ride would be Downieville to Orange County, Ca., and my wife chose the bike for comfort. My other bike is an '83 FXR that I call Harley's come-back-bike. It was built to take on Honda, also a great bike for Highway 49. I was a wrench but time has taken my hearing and I no longer work on my own bikes, not since I confused a free-roaming camshaft for a muffler leak. |

Single...Passenger....dating
Hello everyone,
I've ridden motorcycles all my life. I'm single and realize that motorcycle-riding really is one of the best activities shared in a relationship, for me. Not the boats, movies, BBQ's, etc., though those are good, too. So, where do you go to meet the like-minded? That's why I signed-up, here, but am surprised that there are not others posts for "single" or "dating". I am not a biker-chick, I just love to ride. And there's nothing nicer than riding with the one you love, and, I like riding as the passenger. Sportbikes are great fun but not for the long-haul, I like a sports touring bike or a cruiser for that. Looking forward to hearing from you. p.s. The bike in my photo is not mine. I don't have a bike. |
