Online photo storage and presentation

Who do you use for online storage of photos and why?

I am discovering the joys of photography and having more and more fun actually trying to "compose" photos, rather than just taking "snapshots".

Yahoo? Imagestation? Smugmug?

If my goal is professional presentation of high-res photos, what experience does anyone have with these?

Sean

Hey Sean,

I use imageshack.us . I like the ease and simplicity of their site and when you upload your pix they give you many code options for posting on forums and websites.

What's also different about http://www.smugmug.com is you upload your original photo - even if it's 1000K. Then the site automatically resizes it for you to 640, 800, and original. What's a bit annnoying about a lot of these general ones, is they only display this tiny little photo.

Smugmug will make it through corporate firewalls- at least the ones we have. Don't know why. A large majority of the ones that are highly commercial don't. Have to wait to use the home pc to view some of the photos.

With SmugMug - you can also upload the same template you're using for your primary website, then use these guys to store all the photos. Here's a screen shot of the site the way it displays the photos. Very user friendly. Costs me about $100 a year.

I originally had my website setup with Pac Bell using their facility for personal home pages, but one day I found out I had exceeded my personal allotment of storage. Seems they were supposed to have a limit of like 15 meg's of storage (or there abouts) and I was up to over 250 megs of space and someone shut me off from any more uploading. I've since setup my own domain and have my site over at Jupiter Hosting in Santa Clara. Top notch facility and about as secure as the Federal Reserve (actually Jupiter probably has far more redundant backup of power and security) and the bandwidth is incredible.

Pretty impressive site:

I did go exploring Smugmug last night. I like the way it looks and the variety of ways you can view the images. I think I'd just be a "standard user" though.

Sean, you need to press harder when you write your signature. It's not showing up. Maybe your pen is out of ink?
