GOT PLATE? (vanity plate)
I admit it.
I am a certified and documented fool when it comes to vanity plates. Every vehicle in the "Mueller Fleet" has a personalized plate. In recent years I've been bitten by the plate bug so much that I secure the plate before I actually get the vehicle! For me the rules are simple: The plate has to say something about the vehicle (and perhaps the owners). For instance:
A plate that says, "HOT DUDE" doesn't fly with me (no vehicle reference) In anticipation of adding a dual sport in the future I went searching for a proper plate. CA DMV has a wonderful online program that allows you to search plate availability and then order the plate if you like. The bike is going to be a toss up between a BMW R1200GSA or a KLR 650. I would really like the GSA but I really want to ride the bike in the way a dual sport was meant to be without worrying about dropping it. After numerous unsuccessful tries I started thinking outside the english language. Having a daughter in 2nd year german as well as having the Uber in Deutsche dual sport road bikes on my shopping list, I started with kraut. The first one I came up was available so I took it! ![]() Just in case - AUF is German for variations of up or on, but it's pronounced somewhat close to OFF. How perfect is that? I know it'd be better on a german bike... ![]() Man I love that bike! But in reality I want to ride more dirt than roads and knowing me, when I get to dirt I'm not going to take it so easy... But if I did "settle" for a KLR I'd like to mod it up a bit. Love the look of this bike... ![]() So the plate is on the way! Enough about me. What do you all have? Do you have vanity plate rules? Got Plate? Let's see them |

Tell me you did that yourself? Love the F650BS That's right up my alley! I especially like it because that's something I would do. Back in the mid 80's we were road racing in a class that was all one bike The Yamaha RZ-350 After my first off, the bike came returned as a Honda RC-350. (A mythical bike that never was.) Mind you every bike in the field was an RZ, yet I would have protests filed against me by competitors for using a illegal "grey market" bike. As Carlos Mencia might say, "Dee Dee Dee!" We did a great job on the side panels I wish I had a better picture of. (only picture I have in this computer is this one) I even faked Fast Freddie's signature on the tail section. Add my Spencer replica leathers and you have a complete package!

There's an old thread going along somewhere else. My post was more about my personal excitement of securing a cool plate. That being said, that old thread isn't so much about our "Pashnit" plates as it is about weird plates and bumper stickers we've seen. I would love to see a thread on just the vanity plates we have on our bikes. Know what? I'm still jazzed about going dual sport and having a cool plate! If anything I'm a little bummed at the lack of cool bodywork for KLRs out there. I'd love to get the "Dakar" look but nobody makes an aftermarket fairing for them. I do like the Buell mod where you mount the twin headlights off of a Ulysse. ![]() ![]() I've followed this guy's build of his fairing, but it's a one of a kind with no chance of being duplicated.
