The Freakin' Cow

Imagine the scene...

It's a wonderful day.  The motorcycle beneath you is running like a dream.  Sounds like it too.  The road before you is a ribbon of joy.  

Your wrist is steady at the throttle. Your index finger ready at the brake.  The cool wind in your face.  The road winds through the mountains, curves come hurtling at you.  You haven't a care in the world.

And there's a freakin' cow in the road. 

Sooner or later, if you ride enough within the state of California, it'll happen to you.  These are just a few times I was quick enough to roll to a stop and pull out the camera.

When I first moved to California, having to watch out for cows in the middle of the road the last thing I thought I'd have to be concerned with.

Cherokee Road

So if this is your first ride into California, keep an eye out for these little critters.  Forget about dogs and cats or even a coyote I almost t-boned up by Glass Mountain- these'll do ya in.

Every now and then I'll come up on a horse and rider headed right down the middle of the road.  

And several times deer have scampered across the road in front of me.  Cows though are just plain stupid.  While deer can be quite skittish, I've had cows standing in the middle of the road in the middle of a corner.  Scares the bejeezers oughta me!
