Hopefully, you will never have to hear those words. Signal Dynamics makes products that specifically address your visibility, and survivability, when you ride. After using these for the last 80,000 miles of riding on my motorcycles & leading guided tours- we here at PashnitMoto are big proponents of this item when it comes to products like a Headlight Modulator or Brake Light Modulator. So much so, I'd encourage this simple mod to anyone concerned about safety or being seen. Everyone has likely seen a motorcycle with this mod coming down the highway. Feels as though I could spot the bike twice as far away with that blinking headlight! They're legal because they don't actually turn the headlight off. Instead it just pulses the signal and makes you extremely visible to other traffic. They also are great if you ride in California and lane-split. I've always felt my pulsing headlight parts the waters and adds an edge of conspicuity to my ride.
How do they work? Modulators wire into the high beam or your tail lamp. Headlight Modulators all have daylight sensors built into them. The daylight sensor turns off the modulation at dusk. The modulator is sliced into the high beam, so you can turn it off at any time- a group ride for example. The daylight sensor can also be modded for additional control over when the bike provides a modulated headlight beam to your next ride. Your brake light is a great place to start by making yourself more visible while you brake and while stopped at stoplights. Know someone that's been rear-ended at a stoplight? I do. Several actually.
How to Install? The SDC Diamond Star model is the most universal of the several companies that make these. A simple way to understand installation is headlight current goes into the modulator, gets modulated, and then is sent to the bulb. Sounds simple enough. So the modulator is spliced in line with the headlight. Press-fit C-clips are included in the kit, but soldering the connections is highly reccomended. To splice in the modulator, you'll need to cut the headlight wire, than solder in the modulator. Tail Lamp modulators work much the same way, and come in several versions. Also note the TriStar Modulator that turns your stock turn signals into running lights- AND brake lights. . I first did that mod over a decade ago.

Toggle Modulation ON and OFF - The modulation of the headlight can be toggled on and off by the user at any time. When the bike is started the default is modulation ON. To turn the modulation on or off simply switch your bikes high low beam switch to the opposite position, and then back to the original position within one second (this can be done with the switch in either the high or low beam position).
Auto Night Shut-Off - The Diamond Star Headlight Module is designed to automatically turn on and off at specific light levels in order to comply with the DOT’s regulation of no night time modulation.
To Switch From Max to Min Mode - The Diamond Star Headlight Module is equipped with two levels of modulation to meet your visibility requirements. (Both are fully DOT compliant). The default level is "Max" when the bike is turned on, but can easily be toggled to "Min" or back to "Max" by simply pressing the horn button twice within one second.
Heads Up Alert - The Diamond Star Headlight Module can be connected to your bikes horn wire in order to add a visual alert to your horn’s audible alert. Pressing the horn will cause your headlight to modulate for 3 seconds, then return to steady on; or toggle between min and max mode for 3 seconds if it is already modulating.
Please Note: as per D.O.T. regulations, the Heads Up Alert feature DOES NOT work at night!
Emergency Headlight Feature- The Diamond Star Headlight Module is constantly monitoring the bulb that you have selected (high beam or low beam). In the event the bulb(s) should fail; the alternate bulb(s) will instantly be turned on. This switching will only be done once; when the bike is turned off and then back on you will not have use of the bulb that failed until it is repaired or replaced. While the Heads-Up Alert feature will continue to function in the event of a headlight failure, the headlight will not modulate otherwise. If you find you cannot get your headlight to modulate, check the bulb.

The Tri-Star XP module converts the rear turn signal lights to function as brake and turn signal lights...and now has Running Light Capabilities! Will my Turn Signals still work?
Applying the brakes will cause the rear Turn Signals to light as long as the brakes are held. If a turn signal is sent to the rear lights at the same time it will have priority over the brake lights and cause the corresponding light to flash. When the turn signal is canceled the brake light will resume.
Why install one of these?
Increasing your rear visability is the name of the game here. If your bike comes stock with a small brake light, how well can other drivers really see you? That tiny bulb of yours blends right into the background of night. A simple wiring conversion will triple your visibility by using the turn signal bulbs AND your existing brake light to alert other drivers you are stopping- OR are already stopped.
DUAL LOAD EQUALIZER: This Dual-Load Equalizer is designed to fix the problem when you have changed your stock directionals to L.E.D. turn signals and they flash quickly or not at all.
NOTE: The security key light will still be lit on late model Harley-Davidsons equipped with the factory security system even with this Dual-Load Equalizer installed. However, the security system is still fully functional and cannot be damaged in any way.
If your bike does not have a variable load turn signal flasher, a Dual Load Equalizer will be needed for this installation.

Installation of the Wig Wag Moduleon the Pashnit Hayabusa
I have used the original Back Off Module on previous bikes, and even a Priority Lites Module that turns the turn signals into running lights. I had tried the Priority Lights Module on the Hayabusa years ago, but kept melting the turn signals. My aftermarket undertail signals weren't designed to be on all the time. Stock ones would likely do fine.
After re-reading through the descriptions above and how they're different, I chose the Wig Wag module. Which for any bikes that have two tail lamp bulbs, it alternately blinks the taillamps under braking making them very noticible! That's the goal.
This one also works with LED's which are becoming increasingly common. Not sure how LED's are different than bulbs - but I have them.
If you have two tail lamps like I do, the Wig Wag Module will work great!
The Signal Dynamics modules are extremely small, as you can see. They come with some double sided tape to stick anywhere.
For my Signal Dynamics Headlight Modulator in the front of the bike, I used velcro so I can detach it when I'm working on the front of the bike or take the nose off. That works great too.
Not real complicated with the wires. Basically, you feed the hot brake wire into the module and then into the tail lamps. Seems simple enough.
The two striped wires- each one feeds a brake light. The Orange and Red are two options in how the blinking will occur. And of course a ground. Even a colorblind guy could do it.
Normally, I solder everything when working with wiring on the bike, but for here, I used these quick-connect style connectors. They work great and don't come apart.
All I need are a electricians pliers to crimp the connectors. This allows me to remove the module at a later date and plug the original wires back into each other.
The red and orange are the two blinking options. I put connectors on both them and then tried each of them out to see which I'd like best.
After connecting everything including the ground and testing it all out, no sparks! Just kidding, must have connected it properly.
As you can see, this bike has bulbs that've been replaced with LED bulbs. The two striped wires, there's one for each bulb - thus the wagging.
Ta Da! All finished and buttoned back up. My rats nest of wires all neatly zip-tied and tucked beneath the tail-section.
I mounted the SDC Wig Wag Module with the double sided tape to the undertail. Seemed like a good place. It's quite thin, so no loss of trunk space.
Overall, took me about an hour and only thing you really need is a electrical connector kit which helps and a electrical pliers/crimper. Pretty easy, and the taillamps when I hit the brakes are 10x more noticible!
This sort of mod is great if you ride with other riders, or do freeway or city-commuting. Anything to make yourself more visible and get more attention to yourself when braking.
