Wentworth Springs Road is a ride I described as "what motorcycle dreams are made of"—a pristine ribbon of pavement carved into the rugged landscape of the El Dorado National Forest.

Spanning approximately 31 miles, the route flows atop a ridgeline known as the Georgetown Divide, connecting Georgetown at Highway 193 to Ice House Road. Originally a dirt wagon trail used by gold miners and loggers, the route underwent a modern transformation in 2003 when the final 15-mile stretch over Silver Hill Ridge was finally graded and paved.

This high-altitude backdoor to the Crystal Range offers riders a surreal experience characterized by smooth asphalt and repeating S-curves arcing through the forest. Because it was designed as a service road for remote water facilities, it remains largely deserted and free of commercial traffic.

The only 'development' you'll find is Uncle Tom’s Cabin, a historic, remote bar set just off the road that is a stop for campers, jeepers, and bikers alike.

For the ultimate day in the saddle, connect Wentworth Springs Road with Eleven Pines (goaty) to Mosquito Ridge, or continue to Ice House Road for the climb up to Loon Lake Reservoir. Make a loop with Ice House Rd back to Highway 50 – don’t miss a run up to the Big Hill Fire Lookout – the only paved road to a fire lookout in the state. Wentworth Springs remains a destination for motorcyclists seeking perfection in a silent, mountaintop setting.
