Cecilville Rd - Callahan to Cecilville

Cecilville Rd is home to a stretch of road in Far Northern California we simply call "The Racetrack." It isn’t a race, and it’s not a track, but once you lean into that first series of bends, you’ll understand the name. Tucked away near Callahan, this is arguably the one of the most perfectly engineered, well-graded motorcycle road in California. It offers a rhythmic tempo of curves and mountain views with zero traffic, zero guardrails, and zero distractions.

The climb takes you to the 6,100-foot Carter Summit, where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the pavement. I’ve had tour groups caught in late-May snow flurries here, only to drop back down into the warmth of the pines moments later. While the "Racetrack" portion spans 30 miles of two-lane bliss to Cecilville, it stands in total dichotomy to the rugged, single-lane section further along to reach the Forks of Salmon intersection with Sawyers Bar Rd.

Most riders pass the turnoff on Highway 3 at Callahan and never know this paradise exists. It’s a destination for those who live for "The Curve"— a place where you can lose touch with reality as you flow through the mountains. Remote, pristine, and all yours.
