Highway 1-Legget Section: We’ve arrived at one of the "Top Five" motorcycle roads in California.
It doesn’t have a flashy name like ‘Tail of the Dragon’ or ‘Triple Nickle’; we simply call it The Leggett Section. This 22-mile stretch is a gift from the motorcycle gods, defined by an endless cadre of hairpins and tight, blind corners that demand a "Slow In, Fast Out" philosophy.
The ride is a baptism of fire, gaining 1,000 ft in elevation up and over the Coast Range as the redwood forest swallows you whole. Here, lane position is everything- Set up wide, wait for "see-through" clarity, point towards the exit, and roll on the throttle. When you find your rhythm, the bike sways in a rhythmic flow where trail braking and lean angle become second nature.
While your focus will be pinned on the next curve, hidden gems await.
Near Cottaneva Creek, a small, easily missed redwood grove offers a silent sanctuary all to yourself. Nobody is here, ever.
For the ADV crowd, the legendary Usal Road—marked only by spray paint on the road—branches north into the wild, unpaved Sinkyone Wilderness.
The Leggett Section of Highway 1 isn’t just a road; it’s an intensely smooth, sensory overload. You simply have to ride it to understand why it’s the gold standard for California motorcyclists.
And bonus: it was repaved summer 2025.
